₦75,000 Cash Transfers to be distributed to 70 Million Citizens in Nigeria.

The Nigerian government has announced plans to provide direct cash transfers of N75,000 to approximately 70 million of the country's most impoverished citizens by the end of 2025. This ambitious program, spearheaded by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, aims to alleviate extreme poverty and improve social inclusion across the nation.
The initiative will target 18.1 million households nationwide, with an average household size of 4-5 individuals. To ensure accurate and efficient distribution, the government will utilize the National Identity Number (NIN) system for registration. This will involve a significant push to register the majority of the poorest Nigerians, as currently, only a small fraction possess NINs.
The program emphasizes transparency and accountability. By leveraging digital systems, the government aims to minimize errors, track funds effectively, and ensure that the most vulnerable citizens receive the intended support. This initiative comes on the heels of the suspension of previous social safety net programs due to allegations of mismanagement.
The government is actively working with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to accelerate NIN registrations. Efforts are underway in several states to train personnel and deploy resources to expedite the process. This includes training personnel and deploying resources to accelerate registration in states like Rivers, Kwara, Abuja, and Nasarawa.
This new cash transfer program represents a crucial step towards building a robust and equitable social safety net for Nigeria's most vulnerable citizens.
