The ECOWAS Women and Clean Energy Scholarship 2024, is a wonderful initiative geared towards actualizing the ECOWAS policy centered on Gender equality.
With funding of CAD 1.5 million from the international Development Research Center (IDRC), Canada.


The Women and Clean Energy in West Africa (WOCEWA) is an amazing project lead by ECOWAS Center for Renuable Energy and Energy Efficiency ( ECREEE).


The project aims at promoting Gender equality in the private energy sector by increasing Women participation as both consumer and supplier of clean energy.


Through the scholarship paired with internship placement in ECOWAS Energy institution and Agencies, the WOCEWA program looks at creating a strong future for women in the energy sector as ECREEE  is seriously working towards tackling the low representation of Women in Energy industrial sector.


Benefits as a WOCEWA Scholar include the following:

* Full coverage for your tuition fees
* A laptop
* Chance to gain real world experience through a fully funded internship which include monthly stipend insurance and travel expenses.


* $3,200 per year for a maximum of two years
* A laptop worth up to $700
* $2,500 coverage for tuition and health insurance fees
* A six months internship at ECREEE or another ECOWAS Institution in the energy sector including travel insurance and a monthly stipend of $800.


Requirements:
You have to submit the following after which you will be reviewed by a committee ensuring a transparent selection process.

* A letter of motivation addressed to the ECREEE Director Executive (300 - 500 words)
* Bank details of your University for tuition fees
* A commitment to adhere to the programs terms and conditions
* Official transcripts from your bachelor's degree certificate
* A copy of your passport bio data page
* Proof of registration for your Masters degree course 
* proof of admission in an eligible West African University and relevant course 
* Certified copies of your bachelor's degree certificate
* A detailed curriculum vitae (CV) 


Eligibility:
To be considered for selection in the WOCEWA Scholars 2024, you must;

* Be a citizen of ECOWAS member state
* Not have any other scholarship
* Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5/5 (equivalent to upper second class or an average of 14/20 in the Francophone system
* Be under 32 years old by the end of 2024
* Be a female Student with a background in STEM, With a focus on energy
* Have registered for the first year of a masters degree at a recognized institution in West Africa.

A horrifying incident unfolded at Nwanwu Junction, Igbeagu, along the Enugu–Abakaliki–Ogoja highway in Ebonyi State when a concrete mixer truck lost control and rammed into a local drinking joint and nearby food vendor stalls.
